Alumina is a fine, inert inorganic powder composed of aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) that functions as an opacifying agent, absorbent, and texturizer in cosmetics. It improves coverage, reduces shine, and enhances the sensory feel of foundations, powders, and sunscreens while providing a smooth, mattifying finish. It is non-comedogenic and does not provide direct skin conditioning benefits.
